1.2 Manager Responsibilites

Each general manager is expected submit lines on a regular basis, show respect for fellow GM's, respect league decisions, notify league of any prolonged absences, and lastly must be check in on the forums at least once a week.

1.3 Application

Applying for the NHA is a straightforward process. Simply fill out the form located here. All fields must be filled out (e.g. name, experience, etc.)

1.4 Contracts

A no-trade clause cannot be offered to players, unless they are the designated franchise player, in whose cases an automatic NTC will be applied. The maximum contract length is 5 years, with either a player option or team option.

1.5 Franchise Player

The "franchise player" is a tag that can be designated to any one player by the team GM. The salary of the franchise player will not count against the league cap; however, the player must be signed to at least a three-year contract and will be the franchise player for the duration of said contract. As well, an automatic no-trade clause will be applied to the contract upon designation.

1.6 Salary Cap

The NHA operates with a salary cap of $60 million. Teams may exceed the cap by 5% ($3 million), during the month of March and till the beginning of the next season. Any club that violates the cap in any other timeframe, or by more than 5% during March, will have the club's highest rated player released unless they go under the cap by the next sim.

The league does not mantain a salary floor. However, it is expected that a club will have a payroll above a reasonable amount, or else, coupled with uncompetitveness, it may be considered tanking.

1.7 Player Retirement

AGE %
36 16.66%
37 33.33%
38 50%
39 66.66%
40 83.33%
41 90%
42 100%

Season 2 update: All retiring players names must be submitted by end of preseason.

1.8 Goalies Limit

Each club can play a goaltender for no more than 72 games a season. Any club that uses a goaltender for more than that amount will be penalized as follows. Playoff team -- loses right to use said goalie for the entire first round, Non Playoff team -- team loses fourth round draft pick. Make sure that this doesn't happen!

1.9 Lines

Lines can be sent in either .lns format (see here for help), or via text format to nhaoffice@gmail.com. The "hit and grind" tactic is limited to line 3 or line 4, with a max. shift length of 50 seconds. "Neutral zone trap" is limited to line 2, 3 or 4 with maximum shift length of 60 seconds.

2.0 Waiver Wire

The waiver wire is used when a player must clear waivers when being sent to the farm, or in an attempt to get rid of his salary. He must clear waivers for 24 hrs, after which he is free to be sent down. The following types of players must clear waivers after being sent to farm:

- All players under 21 years old are not subject to waivers
- Players aged 21 are subject to waivers if they have played over 125 career games
- Players aged 22 are subject to waivers if they have played over 100 career games
- Players aged 23 are subject to waivers if they have played over 75 career games
- Players aged 24 are subject to waivers if they have played over 50 career games
- All players over 24 are subject to waivers regardless of games played

If a player has a strikethrough over his name (in farm team screen) he cannot be sent down without being waived. If there is no strikethrough then he can pass freely and safely.

Season 2 update: The waiver draft held after preseason has been scrapped.

2.1 Trading

When you post a trade, consistency must be noted to prevent any drops. For example:

To Montreal:
Mark Recchi(77)

To Pittsburgh:
2007 1st Round Draft Selection

Note, the number in brackets is the player's consistency. This is recorded in case of a consistency drop (see 2.2). If not recorded, it cannot be fixed. You can find the consistency in the players.ehm file as follows:
76 79 82 69 71 65 85 80 80 69
86 64 83 77 103 35 9 20 5 1 1
1968 1 2 3000000 3 1988 4 24 20
The number in red is the players consistency, which is 77. The potential is listed beside the consistency, 83.

For more information regarding the players file, see fhockey.com.

2.2 Consistency Drops

During the off-season, there are no consistency drops due to trades. During the season, no player under the age of 25 can lose consistency due to a trade, and those above 25 can lose no more than 10%.

2.3 UFA Trading

Players signed during the free agency period cannot be moved until the month of March.

2.4 Trade Vetoes

The Commissioner's office retains the sole right to veto any trades that are deemed in some way to be unreasonable (e.g. salary cap violations, unfair trades, etc). Any complaints about pending trades should be directed via PM to the league commissioner.

2.5 Releasing Players

Teams may release players at any time. Only 50% of the entire contract value will be charged as a buyout, to aid adherence of the league salary cap.

2.6 Player Re-rates

Any erroneous ceilings have been corrected.

2.7 UFA Signing Period

The UFA signing period system being used by the league is closed bidding, via the forums. Bids are sent to the league e-mail (nhaoffice@gmail.com), a topic is then posted saying bidding has opened on a player. Team with the highest sent in bid after 48 hrs. wins the player. The period begins two sims after the Stanley Cup Finals, and lasts five days. Clubs are encouraged to bid reasonably and responsibly, and are duly reminded of the $60 million hard cap. Each club can spend no more than $10 million on signing bonuses during the signing period.

Use the following format in emails:

Player Name (also in title)-
Base Salary-
Bonus -
Length -
2 way -
Team/Player Option -

The winning club will be the club that offers the highest total contract value (base salary per year X contract length + signing bonus value). In addition, contracts offered to retiring players can be no longer than two (2) years in duration.

Season 3 Update: No contracts can be offered for more than 4 years in length.

2.8 RFA Compensation

Offer sheets cannot be made to RFAs owned by teams without general managers. These players will be administered by the commissioner's office. GM's may tender offer sheets to restricted free agents owned by any other clubs, however the following compensation chart applies:

• $400,000 - None
• $400,000-550,000 - 3rd Round Pick
• $550,000-650,000 - 2nd Round Pick
• $650,000-800,000 - 1st Round Pick
• $800,000-1,000,000 - 1st & 3rd Round Pick

• +$1,700,000 - Three 1st Round Picks
• Each Additional Million - Additional 1st Round Pick, up to 5

The team owning the players' rights can match the offer at any time; or can accept compensation.

2.9 Tanking

The Commissioner's Office will investigate any complaints made about teams tanking. Tanking is defined as playing the worst possible players in an attempt to garner a better drafting spot. If a team is found in violation (and we hope none will ever be), it will be grounds for dismissal.

3.0 Cash in Trades

Cold hard cash may be included in trades; however teams cannot pay down a portion of a player's annual salary.

3.1 Team Budgets

Team budgets will not be set by the league at this time. Regardless of budget value, payroll cannot exceed $60 million.

3.2 Expansion Drafts

The league will not be adding new franchises at this time.

3.3 Entry Draft

The draft is conducted entirely through the messageboards.
